Every single other compser plays it too straight.. its got a little weird swing to it where he flicks the right hand notes very oddly. He also doesnt accent the da dat da da data da dat in the beginning initial run down.. he just accents the one note. SO interesting. Respighi is arguably one of the most underrated coposers ever. I met his music back in the late 90s, when I first listened to The Pines of Rome. After that came a series of masterpieces that blew my mind and elevated my spirit to hieghts never reached before. Here, in L'Adorazione dei Magi, which portraits the moment when the Thre Kings of Orient found Our Lord Jesus Christ, Respighi takes two Christmas Carols, one at minute 7.20 whose name is Veni, veni Emanuel (Come, come Emmanuel), and the second is a traditional italian Christmas carol called Tu scendi dalle stelle, which means "You come down from the stars", at minute 13.20. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Chile.

The main thing is: did you enjoy the piece playing it. After all, this recording is a snapshot in time. Debussy may have played slower tempi at other times. Secondly, I understand that someone restored an old piano to play the roll on, and made the modern digital recording from it. But who knows if they got it right. It is still an old mechanism they tinkered with. Maybe the machine used to run a bit slower in the past.
